Bailey, D.W., Walker, J.W. and Rittenhouse, L.R., 1990. Sequential analysis of cattle location: day-to-day movement patterns. Appl. Anita. Behav. Sci., 25: 137-148. Studies were conducted in Texas and Colorado to determine if there were consistent movement patterns of grazing cattle. Based on optimal foraging theory, we hypothesized that cattle would select the same area of a pasture to graze for several days in a row. In the Colorado study, the location of cattle was observed each morning h~r 6 weeks. The 50-ha pasture was separated into 10 sections. The calculated number of cattle that moved from one section to another was analyzed using a transition matrix. Cattle were rarely obserCed in the same section of the pasture on two successive mornings. In the Texas study, the location of cattle after they began grazing was observed each morning for eight seasonal trials lasting 6-15 days. The 248-ha pasture was divided into 63 units based on plant community, slope, aspect, elevation and distance from water. Cluster analysis was used to group these units into five separate areas. Clusters were based on the amount of grazing in each unit during the trials. The number of cattle that moved from one area to another during successive mornings {calculated from expected values) was analyzed using a transition matrix. Separate analyses were made for spring, summer and winter periods. There was no consistent movement pattern across all seasons. Cattle seldom grazed in the same area for more than two successive mornings. The transitions on successive mornings from areas separated by the greatest distance generally occurred less often than expected by chance. The hypothesis that cattle would select the same area to graze for several successive mornings was rejected. In both studies, cattle appeared to graze nearby areas on the following morning.

Understanding Temporal Human Mobility Patterns in a City by Mobile Cellular Data Mining, Case Study: Tehran City
Recent studies have shown that urban complex behaviors like human mobility should be examined by newer and smarter methods. The ubiquitous use of mobile phones and other smart communication devices helps us use a bigger amount of data that can be browsed by the hours of the day, the days of the week, geographic area, meteorological conditions, and so on. In this article, mobile cellular data mi...
متن کاملGenetic Analysis of Milk Yield in Iranian Holstein Cattle by the Test Day Model
Using monthly test day records the genetic parameters of Iranian Holstein cattle in first lactation were studied. Data of 277400 test-day milk records from 65320 cows and 2210 sires were analyzed by an animal random regression model using restricted maximum likelihood methodology. The model included herd-test-date, interaction between year-season of calving, days in milk (linear and quadratic) ...
متن کاملConstruction of networks with intrinsic temporal structure from UK cattle movement data
BACKGROUND The implementation of national systems for recording the movements of cattle between agricultural holdings in the UK has enabled the development and parameterisation of network-based models for disease spread. These data can be used to form a network in which each cattle-holding location is represented by a single node and links between nodes are formed if there is a movement of catt...

Mastitis is one of the most prevalent and costly diseases affecting dairy cattle production. In the present study, effects of tumor necrosis factor (alpha isomer) gene (TNF-α) polymorphisms on milk somatic cell count (SCS) and subclinical mastitis was investigated in 121 Holstein dairy cattle. The polymorphisms of a 303 bp fragment of TNF-α gene were investigated by PBR and PCR-SSCP techniques....
متن کاملMining Spatial and Temporal Movement Patterns of Passengers on Bus Networks
The analysis of human behavior is the basis of understanding many social phenomena. Accurate and reliable human movement pattern mining can lead to instructive insight to transport management, urban planning and location-based services (LBS). As one of the most widely used forms of transportation, buses can tell a lot of stories about people, including passenger demands, areas people are intere...
